Letter from Trevor

Thank you for using Project Varsity. Due to the recent economic downturn I have been unable to raise additional capital to continue funding the company and will be forced to shut down the service as of November 1, 2008.  As of that day, you will no longer be able to log in to projectvarsity.com  I appreciate your support for my vision and wish you well in your future athletic pursuits.

Collegiate recruiting is clearly a process in need of innovation.  My goal was to provide amateur athletes a web based service that would allow them to showcase their talents to collegiate recruiters in an effective way that made the process more efficient.  The college recruiting process is one that I am intimately familiar with having gone through it myself.  Way back when, I was recruited by Dartmouth Cornell to play TE for their football team.  A back injury Freshmen year ended my career, but following the injury, I spent time working in the football office breaking down game films, helping game plan for future opponents, and watching video of recruits.  The experience taught me just how archaic the process of collegiate athletic recruiting really is and inspired me to improve it.

Beginning in 2006, I set out to develop a platform that athletes could use to more effectively market themselves to collegiate recruiters.  Although the company’s performance was less then what I had hoped, the experience has been a great one and I have learned far more about business then I ever could have had I not taken the leap and attempted to create something new.

To everyone out there reading this, I will leave you with this: swing the bat.  You can’t hit a home run unless you swing the bat.  Yes, there is the possibility that you will strike out, but there is also the possibility that you will hit it out of the park and be the hero.  All great companies begin with someone with that burning conviction telling him (or her) that he is the one who will go yard.  Though Project Varsity didn’t ultimately achieve the success I had hoped for, I’ve profited in countless ways as a result of the experience.  I hope that you too will feel encouraged to take that chance and swing the bat.
